This section summarizes the rule changes for 2010. Download pdf files of the IRC 2010 Rule, the IRC 2010 Definitions, the IRC Rule Changes for 2010 and the 2010 IRC Rule Numbering via these links.
The 2010 Rules looks significantly different as the ISAF Equipment Rules of Sailing (ERS) are now incorporated. Also, a number of housekeeping changes have been made including a generaal re-numbering.
The most pertinent items to note are:
1. ISAF Equipment Rules of Sailing (ERS) adopted in their entirety:
The ERS can be viewed here. Adopting the ERS will result in changing a few of the terms such as Hull Length replaces Length Overall, Hull Beam replaces Beam and Boat Weight has replaces Empty Weight.2. Rule 15.2:
The use of stored power for the hoisting of headsails and/or spinnakers is now included.
The use of stored power for backstays is now assessed separately from its use for other running rigging.3. New Rule 19.2:
This new rule defines keel fairings in detail.4. Rule 21.3.4:
The rule is amended to require that whisker poles be declared on non-spinnaker boats and bowsprit-only boats and clarifies the definitions.
Other changes:
There are a number of other changes to be understood. Read the IRC 2010 Rule and other documents referenced above.
